FILLER 101

What is dermal filler?

Fillers are gel like substances that are injected into the skin to restore fullness to the checks, diminish scars and deep creases, erase fine lines, plump lips and to lift a turn down mouth. Filler can also be used to add volume to chins and define the jaw line.

What type of fillers are used at Mariposa Med Aesthetics?

At Mariposa we primarily use hyaluronic acid ordered directly from either Galderma or Allergan.  Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is found in the body with heavy concentrations in the skin. Until our mid-twenties, hyaluronic acid is abundant however by age 40 half of it has depleted.

Is getting filler painful?

No. All of the fillers used at Mariposa are manufactured with Lidocaine in them, which helps decrease pain as the injecting occurs. Topical anesthetics (numbing medicine) can also be applied to the skin prior to injection which will decrease the discomfort more.

How long does the procedure take?

On average it takes approximately 20-30 mins to do the injection but we set aside an hour to discuss exactly the look that is desired and what products are best for your particular needs.

How long does filler last?

Depending on the product, filler can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months. If you choose not to continue to“touch up” your filler you features will slowly return to how they looked prior to the procedure.

Depending on what product is in stock, filler typically costs $700-$800 per syringe.  We will discuss how many syringes make sense for what look you're going for in your consultation, but typically it's between 1-3.
